Monday always ruins the weekend

Monday's Suck
Its Friday – You’re sitting at your desk counting the minutes until you get to go home. Why? Everyone loves the weekend! That is until you realize Monday is going dictate your weekend…for the rest of your working life. Lets do this, Lets go there, Lets take a long weekend. Aww dang — I have this meeting I really have to be in for, I have this disaster to resolve, etc. The problem is Monday is unavoidable. Why does Monday always have to ruin the weekend? Well, the truth is – it doesn’t have to.

So what can we as a society do about Monday? Every time this subject is discussed someone throws out the killer idea; “Lets just get rid of Monday!”. Take it at face value and it sounds like a great idea. The problem is then Tuesday becomes the new Monday. get rid of Tuesday and Wednesday is the new Monday. You see where thats going so no need to get down to Saturday being the only day of a week – strung together for eternity. Nice in theory but obviously impractical.

There are better ideas and I’m just going to propose one. I too am guilty of violating this guideline, but if we as a society were to follow this suggestion everyone would be happier. So here it goes (*hides from upper management*): Take it easy on Mondays!!! If an employee is a few minutes late, let it slide. Have an important meeting? Schedule it for Tuesday. Certainly not an hour before the usual weekly start time (an increasingly popular trend). All parties involved will be happier, better prepared, and more enthusiastic about the topic. Starting a new project? Tuesday. Have a large scale repair or maintenance task? Late Monday/Early Tuesday. Basically Monday is left as the daily operations and preparation day. It allows for a more gradual transition from the relaxing weekend to the hectic work week. Your daily duties should still be performed with the same intensity as usual and there should be no abusing the “transition” day. It would at least be an interesting experiment.
