Tomorrow I’m Riding My First Century

Tomorrow marks the culmination of 9 months worth of dedication and hard work. I’ve spent most of the summer preparing to ride a full century (100 miles). I’ve been riding in cycling tours for the last 5 years, typically selecting 50-60 mile routes, but this year I’ve been determined best my previous efforts. Logging close to 1,000 miles on the year I’m in the best cycling shape of my life. Hell — I dropped 27 pounds since last November without even modifying my diet! So tomorrow morning I’ll be riding 100 miles around New York City. Starting in Central Park, the ride will pass through Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens (including the Rockaways — no tornados though please!), and the Bronx. Last years 55 mile route was a blast. In fact last years NYC Century ended up being one of the best rides of the year! Only Boston’s Hub On Wheels matched it in terms of organization and enjoyment. Well, enough for now — I’m off to bed. I have to head into Central Park at 4:30 tomorrow morning to make the 6am start time. On nights like tonight Manhattan living becomes an attractive option ;-)
