New York City from a different perspective

If you’ve lived in New York City for any length of time you’ll be familiar with just about everthing your about to see in this video, however I can guarantee you’ve never seen these landmarks from this perspective. Some crazy R/C enthusiasts from Team Black Sheep strapped a camera to a model airplane and performed fly-by’s of several NYC landmarks.

Stepping Stone Lighthouse Paddle — Finally!

One of the lesser known interests of mine are lighthouses. I wouldn’t consider myself particularly knowledgeable about their history or construction techniques however I have always been attracted to these interesting structures. What has especially fascinated me is just how varied their designs and location selections are. Some are up high on bluffs, some down low at the edges of peninsulas, while others sit in the middle of a body of water on an island. Sometimes constructed on man made islands and at other times on naturally occurring islands. No [...]

2010 ING New York City Marathon – Views from LIC

You couldn’t have asked for a better day for the 2010 NYC Marathon. Sure the air was cool but the sun quickly warmed up the route making it comfortable for both runners and spectators. I had hoped to see the Chilean miner, Edison Peña, but somehow I missed him in the shuffle. The best way to experience the marathon without running in it is to trek out and spectate for a couple of hours. If you couldn’t get out to watch, never fear — As usual I took plenty of [...]

What’s really in that retail package?

You’ve just purchased that new item you’ve been saving up for, eagerly drive home anticipating using your newly purchased item, only to find out the box is filled with rocks. It’s a nightmare scenario. One that’s becoming all too popular and it can happen to anyone. The most common target of these scams are pricey electronic gadgets, but one subset of products you wouldn’t expect to encounter such fraud are automotive items. Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but even that motor [...]

CRT monitors await their fate in monitor purgatory

My new desktop computer – built the smart way!

Around 7 years ago I purchased a high-end laptop — the Acer Aspire 2025WLMI. That laptop was one of the best computer purchases I ever made. Although it can’t compete with today’s offerings, it’s still plenty fast enough to code on, develop web sites, web apps, and handle the image creation/manipulation related to those tasks. Thanks to the combination of an Intel Centrino 1.8Ghz Processor and an ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 Pro 128 video card I was even able to play games like Quake Live [...]
