LeAnn, Chris, Jill, and Ted at the start of the 2009 Tour de Queens
Last weekend was the Tour de Queens. Around 1800 Cyclists made their way from Flushing Meadows Park through a 19 mile loop which included passing through Fresh Meadows, Cambria Heights, St Albans, Cedar manor, Jamaica, Forest Hills, and Rego Park before returning to Flushing Meadows Park. Streets were closed as the ride progressed through each neighborhood and the police and tour volunteers controlled traffic as necessary. There was a very well stocked rest area just after the half way point which was graciously hosted by York College. There cyclists were treated to PB & J Sandwiches, Apples, Oranges, Granola Bars, and fresh water. All in all, this was one of the most enjoyable tours Ive been a part of this year! Several volunteers from the
Long Island City Community Boathouse pariticipated in a strong showing of support for
Transportation Alternatives and all the work they are doing to make cycling in New York City safe.
