Why Digg should bury itself

About 2 years ago I added the digg.com rss feed to my reader. It was nice having such varying topics, both obscure and popular in nature being presented to me on a regular basis. My love affair with Digg has been short lived however. Starting somewhere around 6 months ago digg went through a dramatic change. Rather posting interesting content, people began to digg their personal blogs with hopes of getting a piece of the ad revenues associated with increased traffic. There was always the fair share of blog spam but it has become the norm. Now within the last 3 months the majority of posts have all revolved around TOP X lists. At any given time the top digg articles contain at least one TOP X list.
I sincerely believe digg needs to do something more to stop this growing trend. The solution may not be easy, and I for one have no advice. I have never been an advocate of censorship however if the current trend continues I will forever bury digg.com, by removing digg from my rss reader.
