UPDATED: Buy.com Sells Used Bluetooth Headsets Listed As New

Update:
After more than two weeks from my initial contact with buy.com I got tired of the run-around buy.com customer support was giving. I was able to find the email addresses of Scott Blum (Owner), Neel Grover (President), Roger Andelin (Chief Information Officer). I sent them an email explaining the situation, and the contacts I had with buy.com customer support. By tonight I had a refund for the full purchase price of the broken headsets. Thank you for resolving this matter amicably buy.com.

In an effort to let the world know about buy.com’s shady business dealings I contacted consumerist.com. They have featured my story!!! Consumerist.com: Buy.com Sells Refurbished Bluetooth Headsets Listed As New

So you know the bluetooth headset I purchased a couple of weeks ago? It was supposed to be an new OEM packaged product. Unfortunately buy.com decided it was more profitable to sell used, repackaged headsets (most of which are broken). I received a headset with a broken wall charger, and a non-functional speaker. The device pairs and the microphone works, but thats it. I contacted buy.com who has been giving me the run around. I contacted Jabra to see if I could get the product replaced by them under warranty and I received the following email:

“Hello Chris:

Unfortunately, you purchased a refurbished Jabra BT350, which voids the
Jabra warranty. Please contact buy.com for your replacement. Buy.com
will tell you to contact Jabra. Please inform them that you have, and
that the Jabra warranty is only for new, in retail package product.
Buy.com owns the replacement.

Regards,
Bill

Buy.com refuses to put a supervisor on the phone, but they did admit that they misrepresented the product. So far all attempts at a refund have gone nowhere. I have contacted my credit card company and put the charge into dispute. One way or another I will get my money back. Rest assured I will no longer do business with buy.com.

  1. Do you have Scott Bloom, Neel Grover and Roger Andelin’s contact information? I’ve been having the same issue as you, and would love to get hold of them. Thank you.

  2. Bill, provide me with an email address and I will be more than happy to send you the info. Also, if you print out the specs page of the original ad, information concerning the product being refurbished and/or broken, and information (like email transcripts) from Jabra, you should be able to have the charges reversed by your credit card company. Mine was more than happy to file a dispute.

  3. Do you have Scott Bloom, Neel Grover and Roger Andelin’s contact information? They did not honor a $50 rebate they advertised on their site. It was a manufacturers rebate on a Connect 3D product, they say they are suing the company but I think if they advertised it in an email they sent me they should honor it.

  4. Believe it or not but the email addresses are really easy:
    scott.blum@buy.com
    neel.grover@buy.com
    roger.andelin@buy.com
At the time that I sent my email address one of the above bounced back … but the other two went through. Seeing as how I never got a reply I can not guarantee that they actually read mail on these accounts. That being said, I received my refund only a couple of hours after sending the email … and I had been fighting for weeks with no results. I personally feel it was that email that finally got me my refund.

  5. Thanks for the email addresses as I’ve been fighting with Buy.com for weeks to replace a defective NAS drive. Hopefully I too will get some satisfaction from Buy.com

  6. I hope your situation gets resolved. I would recommend doing your business elsewhere in the future.

Have you tried contesting the charge with your credit card company?

  7. A little late for that as we bought the hardware back in February – but have a 24 month warranty – so trying to claim that now. Unfortunately all 3 emails bounced back. Will never buy anything from Buy.com again. If you happen to run across “fresher” email addresses please let me know.

    Thanks in advance!

  8. Chris,

    Re: Buy.com

I’m another in want of Scott Blum or Neel Grover’s email address. They seem to keep changing it due to heavy activity from their customers, like me. neel.grover@buy.com and scott.blum@buy.com no longer work. Any updates?

  9. Unfortunately no. I would suggest heading over to http://www.consumerist.com and asking them for the current exec email addresses. They are pretty good about tracking that stuff down.

Another source would be SEC filings. Thats where I acquired my list.

  10. neel@buy.com works perfect
